Google Snippet Preview

Type a page title, meta description and URL and see the result the way Google shows it — desktop and mobile — with the real pixel cut-off, character counts and warnings.

A Google snippet preview tool: type your title tag, meta description and URL and see the search result as Google shows it on desktop and mobile — with the real pixel cut-off (about 600 px for titles), character counts and warnings. Runs in your browser.

Google cuts a long title at the last word that fits and may rewrite your description — so the version people see is not always the one you wrote.

Type it, and see what the result looks like on desktop and on a phone.

Your meta description — what the visitor gets when they click, in one or two sentences.

Google rewrites titles it does not like and may show a different snippet — this is how your tags look when it uses them.

The page you enter is fetched once by our server (public sites only), read, and discarded — nothing is stored, and your own files never come into it.

A title and description that fit, on every page that matters

Your results todayYour results, rewritten

Left: titles that run past the cut-off or say only the site name, and descriptions Google may replace with a line from the page. Right: every page that matters with a title that fits on a phone and says what the page is, and a description written for the search that brings people there. Google can still rewrite either one; a well-matched title is less likely to be rewritten.

  • A title under the cut-off for every page that matters
  • A description that answers the search the page ranks for
  • Pasted into the page or the SEO plugin, then checked in Search Console

How it works

How to use the Google Snippet Preview

  1. 01Type the title tag. The counter shows characters and pixel width; anything past about 600 px is cut with an ellipsis.
  2. 02Type the meta description (120–160 characters) and the page URL.
  3. 03Copy both into your page's <head> or your SEO plugin.

Good to know

Why pixels, not characters

Google cuts titles by width, not by count — a title full of capitals and Ws is cut sooner than one of narrow letters. The preview measures your text in the same font size Google uses, so what you see here is what fits.

About the google snippet preview

Writing a title that gets clicked

Put the thing people search for first, then what makes you the right choice, then the brand if there is room: "Emergency plumber in Leeds — boiler and leak repairs | Example Plumbing". Every page gets its own title; when every page carries the same one, neither Google nor the searcher can tell the pages apart.

The description is the ad under it: one sentence on what they get, one on why you. Keep it inside 160 characters and it appears whole.

FAQ

Google Snippet Preview — questions

How long should a title tag be?

Under about 60 characters, or more precisely under 600 pixels at Google's 20 px font — the preview measures the width, because wide letters are cut sooner than narrow ones.

How long should a meta description be?

120–160 characters. Google sometimes shows more on desktop and less on mobile; the preview shows both.

Does Google always use my title and description?

No. It rewrites titles it finds misleading or too long, and often picks a snippet from the page text when the description does not match the search. Writing a good one raises the odds it is used.

Where do I put the title and description?

In the page's <head> as <title> and <meta name="description">, or in your SEO plugin's fields (Yoast, Rank Math) on WordPress.
