Web developer in Serampore, for a customer on the train home

What should you ask a web developer in Serampore to get right first? Speed. Plenty of people here make their choices on a phone, on the train home after work. I build small sites that open quickly and let a customer book or ask a question without ringing you during the day.

Overview

What I'd cut from the first screen

A heavy homepage can sit blank on a phone while the signal drops in and out. So the first screen carries your name, what you do and how to reach you. The slideshow goes. So does the video that plays by itself.

Before launch, I open every page on a real phone with the connection slowed down. Photographs are resized for a phone screen first, so none of them holds the rest back.

I'd rather lose a decorative section than make a customer wait for it.

What gets built here

Shops, services and tuition classes

Each kind of business leads with something else.

  • A shop — what you stock and the days you're open, with the address as a map pin that opens with one tap.
  • A service — each service on its own line, with the area you cover and whether you visit the customer or they come to you.
  • Tuition classes — batches and subjects, listed term by term, because students and parents plan around the term calendar.

Where this runs over

What only you can give me

I can lay these out, but I can't supply them.

  • The term dates, batches and subjects for a tuition page. They change every term, and you'll know them first.
  • The services you offer, and which of them you'd like more of.
  • Photographs of your shop or classroom, if you have any you like.
  • Your opening days, and any day you close for a holiday.

What a scope from me looks like

A sample first scope, line by line

An example first scope — a shop or tuition centre whose customers commute
v1
FIXED PRICE · PER PHASE

Included

  • A written scope: every page and feature as its own line, agreed before work starts
  • Design to build, reviewed on a staging URL that stays open the whole project
  • Mobile first — checked on a real phone
  • A booking form and a WhatsApp link on the first screen
  • This term's batches and subjects, if you teach
  • Domain, hosting and every account created in your name from day one
  • Basic on-page SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console connected
  • A runbook at handover: how to edit it, what renews and when

Phase two

  • A term-calendar page for tuition batches
  • Ongoing SEO once the site has traffic to read
  • A maintenance plan once the site is live
  • Logo and brand design, quoted separately from the build
Each one is scoped on its own when you ask for it.

Not doing

  • Guaranteed rankings
  • Answering your customers' messages for you
Google decides rankings. The messages that come in are yours to answer.

The scope lists each service you name separately, written the way you'd describe it to a customer.

The term-calendar page is written into phase two, because it depends on dates only you hold.

Strike out any line you don't want, or add one of your own.

Where this comes from

The people on the build

I lead each build myself. Working alongside me are three developers, a designer and three SEO specialists in the Kolkata, India office, plus around six people working remotely.

My record is 900+ projects completed, and I've been building since 2017. A few you can open yourself are on the projects page.

FAQ

Questions about tuition pages and logins

Start with whichever question is yours.

Should bookings come through WhatsApp or a form?

Bookings can come through WhatsApp or a short form, and both wait until you're free to reply. I'd put WhatsApp first, because it opens straight into a chat on the same phone the customer is reading on. The form comes second, for anyone who prefers not to use WhatsApp.

What should a tuition centre's site show?

A tuition site carries the subjects and the batches, with the term dates beside them, laid out so a parent can check them on a phone. You send the new dates each term, and they are changed from the editor. You won't need me for that.

How many pages does a first site need?

A first site needs a page for each service a customer asks about, plus a contact page. Every page sits on its own line in the written scope, so the whole site is in front of you as a list. Anything beyond that goes on the phase-two list.

Who owns the domain and the logins?

Every login, the hosting and the domain itself are registered to you, and the runbook lists each one with what it renews. If you ever move to another developer, you hand over that list. Nothing about the site is held back with me.

What happens once the site is live?

After launch, the runbook is yours. It explains how to edit each page and lists what renews. Support is the whole team, not one person — reach us any time, and someone picks it up.

Can parents see which batches still have seats?

Seat counts can sit beside each batch if you update them yourself from the editor. If that is more than you want to keep up with, the batch list can say "ask about seats" instead, with the WhatsApp link beside it.

Next step

What should customers find first?

Pick the services you'd most like to be found for. We'll go through them on the call, one line at a time, and you'll see the draft on a staging link.
