Web developer in Siliguri for trade, transport, tea and tourism

Plain facts open the site, and as your web developer in Siliguri, that's where I begin. The first screen says what your business does, in your own trade's words. The person a customer should contact is named, with a number that reaches them. Everything after that is agreed in writing before I build it.

Siliguri, West Bengal

Overview

Before the design, one question

My first job is finding out who the site has to convince, and where they are. Here that customer is usually in another state or country.

They can't visit. The site has to show them what they would see if they did, and your photographs and your record do that.

What gets built here

Trade, transport, tea and tourism

Siliguri is North Bengal's commercial hub and the gateway to Darjeeling, Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan, and its business leans that way. Each of these trades needs something different from its site.

  • Trade — what you've moved before and where it went, set out so a buyer can weigh it.
  • Transport — the routes you run, and who picks up the phone when a load is late.
  • Tea — a tea exporter website states what leaves the warehouse and where it's headed.
  • Tourism — rooms, roads and what a guest should know before choosing a stay.
  • Pages in a neighbour's language — for a buyer across a border who reads another language more easily.

What only you can supply

I ask for these four on our first call. Rough notes on paper are fine to start with.

  • 01

    What you move

the goods or loads, in your own trade terms
  • 02

    Where it goes

the states and countries you serve today
  • 03

    What you grow or host

the tea, or the rooms, described by you
  • 04

    Your photographs

the yard, the trucks, the garden or the rooms

What a scope from me looks like

Everything agreed on paper first

Whatever the trade, the scope is a list, and every line is one thing the site will do. Anything not on it goes to phase two, in writing.

On the scope for a transport firm, for example, each route it runs gets a line of its own. A tea exporter's scope does the same for every destination it ships to.

I keep the work accountable through this ledger and the accounts in your name.

FIXED PRICE · PER PHASE

Included

  • A written scope: every page and feature as its own line, agreed before work starts
  • Design to build, reviewed on a staging URL that stays open the whole project
  • Mobile first — checked on a real phone
  • Domain, hosting and every account created in your name from day one
  • What you move, how far and who answers, at the top of the page
  • Basic on-page SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console connected
  • A runbook at handover: how to edit it, what renews and when

Phase two

  • Pages in a neighbour's language, once you know which one your buyers read
  • A product or route list with enquiry
  • Ongoing SEO once the site has traffic to read
  • A maintenance plan once the site is live
  • Logo and brand design, quoted separately from the build
Kept on the list from the start and priced when you decide to add one.

Not doing

  • Guaranteed rankings
  • Publishing any figure you haven't approved
Search placement is Google's call. Every number on the site comes from you, and nothing goes live until you've seen it on the staging link.

Where this comes from

Where the work gets done

I've completed 900+ projects, and 600+ of them were for US clients. I work with them the way I would work with you: remotely, from Kolkata, India.

FAQ

Distance, two trades and the day after launch

Routes, rates and stock change after launch, and the site is built to be edited.

Do we need the site in Bengali too?

Only if your buyers read it more easily than English. A Bengali version, or pages in a neighbour's language, waits in phase two until your enquiries show which one you need. Each is priced on its own line, so one can be added later without touching the rest.

We run two of these trades. One site or two?

One site can carry both. Each trade gets a section of its own, because each needs its own proof — its own photographs and its own description of the work. The scope prices and agrees each section separately.

What happens after it launches?

The handover notes cover editing and renewals. You can keep the details current yourself, or add a maintenance plan as a separate line.

How does a buyer across the border check we're real?

From things they can test: the trade you name, the goods or routes you list, and a person who picks up the number on the page. Your photographs back those up.
