Web developer in Kharagpur, writing for people new to the town
Kharagpur Junction and IIT Kharagpur bring people in from every state, and they search in English because there's no local network to ask. They type the trade and the town, and whatever comes up is what they go on. As a web developer in Kharagpur, I build plain-English websites for the shops and services they're looking for. Someone stepping off a train and someone starting a course at the institute want different things, but neither knows the town yet.
Overview
Railway and engineering supply, sold out of state
Kharagpur also has an engineering and railway supply trade, and its buyers may never set foot here. Someone comparing suppliers from another state reads for specifications and capacity first, and the town comes last.
A shop or a service in town answers a different question for a different person. The two share very little. I scope them as two separate builds.
If you run both, I build the one that brings in more work first. Your own enquiries are the best guide to which side that is.

What a scope from me looks like
What goes in writing before work starts
Included
- A written scope: every page and feature as its own line, agreed before work starts
- Design to build, reviewed on a staging URL that stays open the whole project
- Mobile first — checked on a real phone
- Domain, hosting and every account created in your name from day one
- Contact details on every page, with a number that dials when tapped
- Basic on-page SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console connected
- A runbook at handover: how to edit it, what renews and when
Phase two
- A specification sheet to download, for the supply side
- A second, separate page for whichever half of the business isn't launched first
- Ongoing SEO once the site has traffic to read
- A maintenance plan once the site is live
- Logo and brand design, quoted separately from the build
Not doing
- Guaranteed rankings
- Deciding which side of the business you are without asking you
What gets built here
What goes above the fold
Put these where nobody has to scroll for them.
- 01What you sell, named the plain way, before any brand name or slogan gets a look in.
- 02An address a stranger can follow, built around a nearby landmark you choose rather than shorthand only regulars would understand.
- 03A WhatsApp link, for anyone who'd rather type a question than ring a number they don't know.
Specifications come from you
A supplier's figures come from your own records, not from me. Capacity and part specifications go into a table a buyer can scan quickly, and every number in it stays yours to state.
What moves the number
Where a Kharagpur build grows
It grows with every page and every trade listed. The scope builder lets you try a scope yourself, with no figures attached.
- Whether the site needs written directions from the junction as well as a map
- How many product lines or trades get separate pages
- Whether an older site exists with pages worth carrying over
- Whether a specification sheet belongs on the engineering-supply side at launch
Where this comes from
What stands behind the work
Since 2017 I've led every build myself, and 900+ projects completed sit behind this one.
What clients made of that work is on the testimonials page; the builds themselves are on the projects page.

FAQ
Asked before anything is signed
The supply trade and the Bengali question both come up here.
Why does it matter that customers are new to the area?
- Someone new to Kharagpur may not know what the trade is called locally, so they type the plainest English name for it. The site uses that name, in the heading, rather than a local one they've never heard.
We supply railway parts to buyers outside the district. What changes for a supplier like us?
- Quite a lot. A buyer who is never coming to Kharagpur looks for specifications, capacity and a way to reach the right person long before an address, so those lead the supply pages and the address moves down. A form that asks for quantities and drawings can sit beside them, if that is how your orders usually start.
Should the site be in Bengali?
- English is the place to start here. A Bengali section can be added once you know local customers want one, and a person writes it rather than a translation tool.
Can we put prices on the site?
- Yes, wherever you're comfortable showing them. Someone new to the town has nobody to ask what things usually cost, so a printed price, or a clear line asking them to get in touch, saves them guessing.
Students from the institute come to us too. Do they need anything different?
- Mostly the same things as anyone new: what you sell, named in English, how to find you, and when you're open. If you offer something meant for students, it's mentioned near the top as well.
Next step
One message is enough to begin
Send a WhatsApp or book a call, with a sentence about what you sell. The written scope is drafted from that conversation. Either way, nothing is built until you've read the scope and agreed to it.
